G is for Gunnamatta Bay...
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)
Gunnamatta on Westernport Bay is best known as a place to surf.
This photo was taken at the end of May - beginning our Winter season.
Clearly, cold is no deterrent.
The waves are usually rugged to huge with a strong undertow or two.
Not really an ideal place for swimmers but a challenge for the surfing addicts.
The view afar is often shrouded in sea mist from the pounding surf.
Most surfers are male.
But often their families can be seen watching them from the shoreline.
And some watchers are the surfers - those just arriving and "testing the waters" or those simply taking time out to watch the competition.
This is a special viewing platform at the back of the beach.
Then there are those who multi-task - like combining watching the surfers with fishing.
The call of the surf
Tempting the waves of the soul
To ride high and wild
At times it can be rather crowded out there.

You really caught the action. These are great summer pictures.
Fantastic photography for G at ABC ~ ^_^
I would think that much surf would not make for successful fishing. Nonetheless, beautiful images here.
what a lovely locale

The water does indeed look a little wild out there.

Looks lovely Gemma, I'm a swimmer not a surfer so the suggestion of undertows would keep me dry.
Surfing looks so much fun!
