An Eden Mailbox

An unusual mailbox in Dromana.
It features 2 elephants in the form of a crest.
And the word Eden appears beneath them.

Hog's Breath

These boats rested at Blairgowrie Yacht Club on the southern end of the peninsula.
I am always intrigued by some of the quirky names of boats.
Perhaps this particular boat really connected with another yacht club in Queensland, Australia's north eastern state.
Hog's Breath is the name of a cafe chain throughout Australia that has invented the word hogspitality
So the boat name becomes an advertisement for a cafe chain!
One way to create a sign!!

Climbing to Arthurs Seat National Park

The walk from the open spaces of Hillview Community Reserve up into Arthurs Seat National Park is quite steep.
But all ages attempt it.
And it's good to stop and turn around around to admire glimpses of Port Phillip Bay.
On the way up, a dam makes a great resting point.

Sorrento Athenaeum

In the main street of Sorrento - across the road from the last photo - is the Athenaeum.
Construction of the Sorrento Athenaeum Hall commenced in 1894, and comprised of a limestone building housing a large hall, a stage with a cellar, dressing rooms, two shops and a separate residence above. Sorrento Shopkeeper Mr. D. Macfarlane owned the cinema during this period.
Approximately in 1918 a Bio cabin was erected between the main lobby, the shop and the hall. Films were projected through the central back door of the hallway. In 1919 electricity was introduced and saw the removal of all gas lamps.
Over the years, the complex has been re-developed and still operates every day except Christmas Day.

Sorrento Quiet in Winter

A winter view of the Sorrento main street.
(Sorrento is on the far end of the peninsula.)
Usually, in summer, this street is alive with shoppers and holidaymakers in their summer colours.
But in winter, it seems just the residents of the peninsula venture here.

On the eastern side of the peninsula is Westernport Bay. And one of the beaches there is this one - Point Leo.
It is winter.
But still the surfers must surf.

Merricks General Store

Old Merricks General Store has been transformed into Merricks General Wine Store.
Once it was a multi-purpose rural pitstop on the eastern side of the peninsula, but when Balnarring shopping centre evolved just down the road, it fell into disrepair.
Then in 2005, the store was restored as a cellar door and cafe.

Blue Kite Art

In March each year, Rosebud hosts a kite festival near the beach on Port Phillip Bay.
The kites are most unusual shapes and sizes.
Some fly in the air and others are on long sticks like this one and fly in the breeze.

A swamp hen enjoys the protection of the Hillview Community Reserve in Boundary Road, Dromana.
This reserve is at the base of Arthurs Seat mountain. At one side it offers a steep walking track up the mountain.
The reserve itself is poular as a picnic area by the water or for letting dogs enjoy exercise in a large space.
