mask...

one of many sculptures scattered through the Montalto vineyards at Red Hill.
This is called Mask by Mike Nicholls and is based on a hand holding a mask.
It is in the form of a protective spirit and explores the theme of identity.
Each autumn, there is a competition at Montalto for a sculpture prize.
Some works are retained as part of the garden features.

U is for unusual...

U is for unusual...
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

There are many unusual, unexpected, unique sights to be seen round the Mornington Peninsula.
But perhaps the most unusual sight I have seen recently must be the sculptures on display round Montalto Vineyard at Red Hill.
Many seem to totally overhaul the whole concept of sculpture as a solid mass.
The one above utilises the landscape as part of its substance,.

Above are huge sculptures of pukeko, right near where the real pukekos (much much smaller) wander by the water.

A discarded tractor gets a new identity.

Sculpture in Yellow

Not often do you see a sculpture based on yellow.
But here is one.
It is at Montalto vineyard at Red Hill - part of the sculpture exhibition scattered through the vineyards.

Art in the Vines

One of many unusual sculptures scattered through the vineyards at Montalto, Red Hill.
I like the soft single shadow cast by the sculpture in contrast with the gridded line shadows cast by the Autumn vines in the background.

Montalto Wonder

At the end of April, even though it was a little chilly and a little windy, people still wandered the Montalto Autumn vineyards at Red Hill.
It was the last weekend for viewing many of the 2013 competition sculptures which were scattered through the vineyard.
