A is for Anthony's Nose...

A is for Anthony’s Nose + Arthurs Seat! 
(This post begins my ABC Wednesday series on the Mornington Peninsula)

Anthony's Nose is the point where Arthurs Seat ridge (Arthurs Seat is a mountain, the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula) falls steeply to the waters of Port Phillip Bay.
Early travellers had to wade, ride or drive through the water to round the point.
Above is a view of the ridge from Domana beach.


 Over the years,  the original escarpment was cut back to a cliff face.
In the early 1920’s, Point Nepean Highway was continued through here.
But it is not unusual to see signs on the roadside, warning of rock fall from the crumbly sandstone.


 A sea wall, (about knee height from the boat car park), built in the 1940’s, protects the road and cliff face.
It amuses me to see fishermen park their car by the wall, set up fishing rods, and then return to the car to listen to music!
Gulls are rather partial to the wall too as a parking spot!


These steps appear to be part of the wall design and lead directly to the rocks below.
For rock fishing?


Cormorants and seagulls like to rest on the rocks near the small reef offshore from Anthony's Nose.


Finally, Anthony's Nose is popular as a boat ramp and jet ski access to Port Phillip Bay.


And, if you're really lucky in the summer months, you may spot a seal dancing in the waters nearby!
