Blue Kite Art

In March each year, Rosebud hosts a kite festival near the beach on Port Phillip Bay.
The kites are most unusual shapes and sizes.
Some fly in the air and others are on long sticks like this one and fly in the breeze.

Winter Swimmers of Sorts

I took this photo in July a year ago.
These guys are in the Port Phillip Bay waters at Frankston beach.
They simply stood around in the icy winter waters chatting.

Swamp Hen

A swamp hen enjoys the protection of the Hillview Community Reserve in Boundary Road, Dromana.
This reserve is at the base of Arthurs Seat mountain. At one side it offers a steep walking track up the mountain.
The reserve itself is poular as a picnic area by the water or for letting dogs enjoy exercise in a large space.

Riders on Balnarring Beach

This is an early misty morning view of Balnarring beach.
The beach is on the Westernport Bay side of the peninsula.
From sunrise, racing groups are permitted a couple of hours to exercise and train their horses here!

Gunnamatta on the Westernport Bay side of the peninsula is a popular surfing beach.
It is also well known for its rugged, dangerous rips.

McCrae Lighthouse

Old lighthouse at McCrae on Port Phillip Bay as viewed from the Nepean Highway below.
The original McCrae Lighthouse was a timber structure built in 1854 and following years of service was dismantled in sections and transported by bullock wagon to the top of nearby Arthurs Seat to be used as a lookout.
The present day lighthouse, built in England in 1874 by Chance Brothers & Co of Birmingham, was transported to Australia by sea and erected on this site in 1883.
The structure, which is listed on Victoria's Historic Buildings Register, is one of two such types remaining in Australia ...
