In a few sunny breaks, during the past week, I wandered a few places on the peninsula that I have not explored.
Mornington and District Memorial Park was one of them.
It is set back a little from Port Phillip Bay and Main Street Mornington, but still easily accessible.
MORNINGTON'S Memorial Park in Barkly Street is unique in Australia as the only place with memorials for every major conflict [since the Maori Wars of 1863-72] involving Australians. Ref: Peninsula Weekly
I liked how the tree branches seemed to reach across the sign.
There were seats with signs for individuals like this one.
Sir Edmund was an army doctor (in World War II) and humanitarian who died in 1993.
He was given a state funeral in Melbourne.

What a lovely park to visit. These are great shots.
Too often we forget about the sacrifices of war. A war is often fought for the ambiguous reasons of political types, yet the soldiers and support persons do not ask why, they go as asked. To remember and recognize sacrifice should be on the mind of us all. To have a peaceful garden as a place remembering is important, that the terror of the battle is now far away from the quiet this place affords. That we never forget their service...
I like the memorial benches - a respectful way to rest and reflect on those who've served on our behalf.
What a nice play to go and relax. It certainly provided some great shadows.

These are such poignant photos. I always like memorials. The soldiers of WWII are quickly fading from our lives. I hope those remaining know how we appreciate their sacrifices for us all. My husband is a veteran and I try to let him know what a hero he is to me. Happy SSS to you.
