Signs of Summer

As summer approaches, more and more we see holiday style street banners appearing on the Mornington Peninsula.
This one is from 2011 in Rye streets - on the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula.

Lime Burning

Replica of an old lime kiln near Rye beach.
Lime burning used to be a a big industry on the Mornington Peninsula for most of the 19th century.
Rye to Tootgarook on Port Phillip Bay used to be one of the largest lime burning centres in Victoria.
The last commercial burning of lime on the peninsula was at Rye.

Hey Diddle Diddle...

October is that crazy time of year when the Mornington Peninsula Hinterland Scarecrow Festival comes alive.
The scarecrows are not your regular scarecrows.
Many feature nursery rhymes or fairy tales.
This one is at Arthurs Seat.
The whole scene is called Hey Diddle Diddle.
Love this cow jumping over the moon!
