X is for Xyloglyphy
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)
Xyloglyphy means the art of carving in wood.
And there are many wood carvings at the Enchanted Maze Garden, Arthurs Seat
The above figure looks like a soldier.
A frog on a log
wood art has a warmth
a sense of intimacy
a closeness to earth
This one looks like an Aboriginal woman's pensive profile

A most interesting word and beautiful carvings. I have a granddaughter who has refined the work of chain saw sculpting and does some lovely work.
I have a huge love for wood carvings, so I was delighted to find that this was the topic of your post! You're so right ... this kinds of artwork does possess an intimacy and closeness with the earth. I didn't know it was referred to as xylography!
Those are amazing carvings! I did not know that word before.

Incredible art work!
I am eXcited! I learned a new word that I can actually use. Cheers!!!
That is a very find frog. I like the last one, I like to think she is looking out of her underground home before emerging whole from the wood. I love carvings dotted around in woods and their unexpected nature.
What a fantastic X word and one I've never come across before. I can't wait till we're out in the woods near some carving to demonstrate my new found knowledge of Xyloglyphy!
