The Wavy Building

This is a new building on Main Street, Mornington.
(But this is the back view)
It is often referred to as the "wavy building".
The $20 million apartment complex sold all 16 apartments off the plan in less than 3 weeks over the Christmas 2007/8 period.
Prices ranged from $680,00 to $2.5 million.
All have spectacular views of Port Phillip Bay.

Side view of the building as it sweeps around to Main Street
(The bubbly feature is a pale shade of blue!)
There is a cafe/restaurant below and Splash of Red hairdresser will be moving here soon!

Shadowy Main Street

Main Street, Mornington during a rare break in traffic!
Admittedly, once summer has passed, the traffic "thins" in this town on Port Phillip Bay.

Warming to the day
Sleepy coastal Autumn town
Saved from summer crowds

Village Green

This may appear to be a rather plain sign.
But not many areas in Australia display the British term "Village Green".
This is a community area.
In the summer, there are circuses and rides.
On Australia Day, on 26th January each year,
this area comes alive with a community breakfast - free - + family entertainment.
It is also the end of the popular Australia Day early morning bike ride from Safety Beach to Rosebud.
And every Sunday, the Rosebud Lions Club hosts a market.
All this is right by the scenic shores of Port Phillip Bay.

Seashore gathering
Taking time just to have fun
A village green charm

Transporter Shadows

Shadows round the transporter at Point Nepean, Mornington Peninsula.
(The photo was taken in January 2012 - Australian summer time!)
The transporter is actually a tractor with open air carriages attached.
It travels round Point Nepean, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery of Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait without trudging the hilly terrain.
It also stops at points of interest along the way - the old quarantine area and the defense buildings.
(But now it seems that from 24th April, 2012 it was replaced with a 22 seater mini bus!)

Safety Beach Noticeboard

The Safety Beach noticeboard  near the beach is a special kind of sign for tourists and anyone who wishes to know the origins of the Safety Beach area on Port Phillip Bay.

The information about William Buckley is especially fascinating.
Unlike many white people in the early days, he adapted to the Aboriginal people in Australia, lived amongst them, and adopted their skills!
From convict to humanitarian!

He arrived a rogue
He wandered the wilderness
He became saintly
