Summer Lifestyle

A view of Dromana beach looking toward the pier jutting out into Port Phillip Bay.
The pier was completed in 1872 and initially provided for the shipping of local produce to Melbourne markets.
Now it is a haven for walkers, fishermen and the occasional boat.

A view of the beach
A view of the endless sea
Summer's cool lifestyle

Red Hull

Not often do I see a boat with a red hull.
This one is moored at the still evolving Martha Cove marina on Port Phillip Bay.

Bright and dramatic
A hull with some character
Stylish sea lady

Lone Beach Umbrella

Beach umbrella alone on Dromana beach.
I was fascinated by the shadow because it seemed to "interpret" the umbrella shape!

Lonely belongings
Basking in sun and shadow
Clinging to summer

Wispy Skies Over The Royal

Wispy skies over The Royal Hotel on the Esplanade at Mornington.
It overlooks Port Phillip Bay.
A very elegant hotel, its special feature is the beautiful Victoriana room.

Tenacious lady
Elegance of other days
Remembering style

See! I'm Allowed!

Sign in the parking area by Fisherman's Beach on Port Phillip Bay.
The seagull seems to be checking the sign!

Check out legal rights
No good upsetting tourists
Seagulls must be wise

(N.B. The haiku is the seagull's point of view!
My choice of words is facetious intentionally!)

Outdoor Chess

Outdoor chess board set up at the Boneo Maze and Wetlands, Fingal in the hinterland just outside Rosebud on Port Phillip Bay.

An outdoor chess game
Sheltered well beneath the trees
A shady fun world

Never fear shadows. They simply mean there's a light somewhere nearby.

First Glimpse of Enchantment

A view of the first scene on entering the Enchanted Maze Garden at Arthurs Seat.
There are many enchanting garden styles here!
The Enchanted Maze Garden won the tourism category at the 2011 Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Excellence in Business Awards.

Fisherman's Beach Entrance

A view of one entrance to Fisherman's Beach on Port Phillip Bay.
In 1896 The 'Shire of Mornington' appointed an 'Inspector of Nuisance'.
At Fisherman's Beach mixed bathing was considered to represent anti-social behaviour.
So curbing this social pestilence fell under the jurisdiction of the Inspector of Nuisance.
For more on the inspector's duties, see HERE!

Outdoor Game

One of the many outdoor games available at the Boneo Maze and Wetlands at Fingal, in the hinterland just beyond Rosebud on Port Phillip Bay.
This is called an Arrow Maze, but I didn't take a photo of the game rules just visible on the left!

Joy of outdoor games
Space for a sense of free play
Opportunity

Gold Over Green

Spotted at Mornington on Port Phillip Bay.
At first this just seems like a ute with a boat on top.
But the colour scheme set me wondering.
Australia's sporting colours are green and gold - admittedly the green is usually a darker tone than this one.
Is this a deliberate colour scheme selection or pure circumstance?

Wheelbarrow Shadows

Many gardens on the Mornington Peninsula present displays of flowers in various recycled objects.
This old wheelbarrow with a flat tyre is an example of just one.

Home for some flowers
A wheelbarrow fantasy
A mobile garden

Lingering Strange Skies

Strange skies over Rye Back beach at the end of Spring.
Skies like these seemed to linger over the Mornington Peninsula throughout the summer months.

Vast sense of spaces
Strangely unsettled Nature
A troubled Mother

A Sign With an Extra Message?

This sign at Boneo Wetlands and Maze amuses me.
I am not totally sure that there was ever an "a" in grass.
Throughout the wetlands there are signs indicating that quietness will help to view the range of wildlife.
And all the major signs are shaped like birds.

A novelty sign
Echoes throughout the wetlands
Serious message

Almost like some detailed, chaotic abstract artwork!
But this is actually a macro of part of the wetlands at Boneo Maze and Wetlands at Fingal in the hinterland just outside Rosebud.

Shadowy lined reflections
Visual chaos

Hookey

An outdoor version of a game that as a child I called "Hoop-La".
This game is in the delightful world of the Boneo Maze and Wetlands at Fingal, in the hinterland just outside Rosebud.

A game of patience
Visual accuracy
Delightful challenge
