Hooded plovers nest through the warmer seasons, so that means holidaymakers in large numbers are walking the sands.

Too bad they can't put tape around the site (like in a murder investigation) like when the sea turtles come to shore and lay their eggs in the sand on the east coast in the States. But maybe there aren't as many nests.
Poor little Plovers!
Poor Plovers.
It would be great if they could rope off an area for the plovers to nest. That is what is done here on our beaches. The Piping Plovers are endangered also and their habitat and nesting areas are protected.
With only 600 left, they need all the help they can get.
With such a low number, it would be worth making the area out of bounds for a few years during the nesting season.
I agree with everyone who suggests roping off the area or making the area out of bounds for a few years until they can get their numbers up again.

600 is not many! I wonder if a sign like this helps...? Do people give space to the nesting hooded plover?
There is the same thing with plovers in this part of this country (the Pacific Northwest). I forget right now what kind of plover it is that is threatened with extinction. At times they mark off areas of the beach. (In Oregon no cars can drive on it ever).

I've heard the chicks described as "cotton balls on toothpicks".
Half the problem is people who bring their dogs to the beach so they can run wild and free - irrespective of anything/anyone else. If that happens, the warning sign needs to be replaced with a severe penalty ...
