It may be bleak...

It may be cold and barely sunny, but still people like to walk their dogs along the beach.
This photo was taken at Mornington.

Save Arthurs Seat

There's quite an uproar in my world at the moment about a proposal for a tip at Arthurs Seat
- the mountain just about my Dromana world.
Currently, it is a lake area in the old Pioneer Quarry on the Arthurs Seat escarpment.
Arthurs Seat in this area is a national park, a fire risk area.
Why would it be a good idea to create a tip in such an area?
So many in the community disagree with the proposal.
Streets are lined with Save Arthurs Seat signs and cars have signs like the one in the photo above.
More details of the crisis HERE and HERE.

Mechanics Institute Mornington

This building in Main Street, Mornington was originally the Mechanics Institute - opened in 1885.
It included a free library + large entertainment hall seating up to 300 people.
Since 1940 it has been used as council offices.
More details on this building and others in Main Street HERE.

Turf Maze

Follow the tightly winding turf maze slowly and there is a real sense of peace and meditation.
Race the maze, and there is quite a giddy feeling - so my son tells me.
This sign is at the Enchanted Maze Garden, Arthurs Seat.

Autumn Lingers

Some yellows of Autumn still linger in the peninsula world, even though it is Winter.
This is a view of the little pond at Seawinds, Arthurs Seat reflecting the lovely yellows nearby.

Stony Point Station Shadows

Stony Point station, right by Westernport Bay, framed in winter shadows.
This station is the end of the railway on this side of the Mornington Peninsula.
There is no railway on my Port Phillip Bay side of the peninsula.

A typical sign to be found dotted around my Mornington Peninsula.
This one represents beautiful countryside just behind Arthurs Seat.

Z is for zany...

Z is for zany...
(Closing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

You don't have to go far to find examples of zany characters on my Mornington Peninsula.
Above are busking jazz players at the 2013 Rosebud Kite Festival.
And their sound was brilliant!

A stilt walker and "elephant" friend at the same festival.

Characters at the Hastings 2013 Westernport Festival.

And not all zany characters are of the human variety.
Here is one of many zany pelicans adorning the foreshore of Westernport Bay at Hastings.

zany to some
but living your soul
brings joy

Finally, there are the zany characters that appear annually for the hinterland Scarecrow Festival each October.
