Woolly Boat Shed???

This is a sign above a boat shed at Dromana beach.
I am a bit puzzled as to why a boat shed would be called this!
The owners have a sheep property maybe?

A woolly idea

G is for Gunnamatta Bay...

G is for Gunnamatta Bay...
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

Gunnamatta on Westernport Bay is best known as a place to surf.
This photo was taken at the end of May - beginning our Winter season.
Clearly, cold is no deterrent.

The waves are usually rugged to huge with a strong undertow or two.
Not really an ideal place for swimmers but a challenge for the surfing addicts.

The view afar is often shrouded in sea mist from the pounding surf.

Most surfers are male.
But often their families can be seen watching them from the shoreline.

And some watchers are the surfers - those just arriving and "testing the waters" or those simply taking time out to watch the competition.
This is a special viewing platform at the back of the beach.

Then there are those who multi-task - like combining watching the surfers with fishing.

The call of the surf
Tempting the waves of the soul
To ride high and wild

At times it can be rather crowded out there.

Michael Leeworthy's Gallery

Quirky entrance to Michael Leeworthy's art gallery at Red Hill.
His home combines as his gallery and studio work area.
He uses indoor spaces and verandahs to showcase his work.
When the peninsula hinterland Scarecrow Festival is celebrated in October each year, he often uses his garden for an entry in the competition.

Charged dashes of colour
Art drenched with feeling

Mumma B and Baby B....

Mumma boat shed can't quite fit in the picture and Baby boat shed is all tiny, locked up and pretty.
(This scene is at Dromana beach.)
For some weird reason, I have always been amused by these two together.
Mumma's paint is wearing thin while Baby's gear is all sprite and glowing.
Mumma's got the middle age spread while Baby's all toned and spunky!

F is for Frankston...

F is for Frankston
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

Frankston is another community on Port Phillip Bay just north of my Dromana world.
Frankston is well known for its sandcastle displays in the summer/autumn weeks after Christmas.
So this post will mainly focus on views of this special event.

Each year, the sandcastle display is based on a theme.
This display's theme was Toytopia.

Fantasy in sand
More than a sandcastle
Special summer art

The display is set by the foreshore walks, boat ramps and piers, just back from the beach.

Yellows from Yesterdays

These little boat sheds at Rosebud beach seem to be sinking into the sands of time.
They don't seem to be used too often!

Scenic Old Tree

An old tree at The Briars Mount Martha.
In the summer light, it seems to offer a mysterious beauty.

The Briars at Mount Martha is a place of surprises.
Wetlands, bushwalking, an old homestead, a camp for youngsters and a nursery are some of the features.

Perhaps I'm lifeless
But look closely at my boughs
They hold my secrets

E is for Enchanted Maze Garden...

E is for the Enchanted Maze Garden
at Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula.
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

It is a wonderful world of fantasy for children and adults.
Each season, new fantasies are added to this incredible world.
(Last summer, a tube slide and a lake monster - complete with horrible gurgling sound at the push of a button -  were added

and this current summer, tree surfing was added to the attractions!)

Garden sculptures and artworks abound.

Shaped gardens roll down the entrance hillside.

The shaped gardens lead to a delightful water feature.

In the bushland area, you will find indigenous people sculpted into and from woods.

Water features have a few surprises too!

And of course, there are mazes, many different kinds of mazes.
This is the indoor 3D maze!

And all the while, you may find some rather odd faces smiling on you!

Find your inner smile
Find the joy of fantasy
Find the child in you

Bagpipes at The Briars

It was the school summer holidays (just after Christmas in January) and time to get away from the work routine I had imposed on myself.
I was longing to wander with my camera, but couldn't afford to use up too much petrol!
I hadn't visited The Briars at nearby Mount Martha for awhile, so wandered there.
It's a great place for indulging in bushland and wetlands and enjoying the old historic homestead of Napoleon's.
But as I stepped out of the car, I heard music - bagpipes.
I had to find them!
I wandered up toward the Briars Camp building on the hill.

And, behind the building, on the hill top, this is what I saw!
A group of young people learning to play the bagpipes. (There is one girl hidden on the far left!)
And they were so good!
Their music seemed fill the hillsides - haunting and beautiful!
I don't think I have ever enjoyed hearing bagpipes so much!
Maybe it was the morning air and the amphitheatre effect of the hills!
And best of all, I was the only audience!
It was me and their music!

How wonderful to see young people doing this on their school holidays!
(You can just see the girl's skirt behind the boy second from the left!)
But there was more to come!

I wandered back down the hill leaving them to play.
But I sensed that they seemed to be getting closer.
And the music seemed different.
The song they played was There was a soldier, a Scottish soldier...
Finally I turned around.
They were following me, but only the first ones were playing!
I tried to take a photo (actually I felt nervous and moved by their music) but they turned into the camp area and I only captured the last ones.
Sighh....
(And when did this mystery girl in blue shorts appear???)

One dreamy morning
I found music in the hills
Unexpectedly
