A Cool What...????

This is one of those photos that maybe should become closely acquainted with the delete button.
No thing (and no one) is complete!
It's a mystery of bits!
And yet, it has kinda grown on me!
This photo was taken last Saturday midst the crowds celebrating Australia Day on the Dromana foreshore!
I was trying to photograph the dog, but he kept twisting and turning!
I noticed the assortment of feet and footwear - but they kept shuffling!
I noticed the stroller + Australian flag - but they became hidden!
But then I had the chance to get bits of all this together!
I snapped!
(Actually, it was an accidental snap out of frustration!)
So now I have an interesting abstract of ....?????
And yes...
I think I like it!
It's different!
It has a story!
It's cool!

Crowded kind of art
A gem of incomplete tales
Waiting to move on

C is for celebrations...

C is for celebrations...
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

Celebrations especially include Australia Day in Dromana...and last Saturday 26th January was that day.

Far from the idea of barbies and beer drinking
- that seem to have been popularised as the Australian way -
this celebration by Port Phillip Bay includes:
* fun run at 8:00am in the morning along the foreshore
* free breakfast - bacon and egg roll
* rides for the little ones - incl a ride in the surf rescue boats
* activities for the little ones - incl face painting and art and holding animals
* a display of vintage cars
* local produce for sale - e.g. Peninsula Honey
* fly over of planes from Tyabb airport
* music on a stage - from early morning till 1pm
* and all the while, the sea and sand welcome those who just wish to enjoy the views of many colourful sails on the bay

Here is a collection of photos from last Saturday's Australia Day

Street Market Colours

Main Street, Mornington markets are held each Wednesday.
These are the longest running street markets in Victoria, Australia - about 30 years.
The market is dedicated to Australian designed and made products.
Often, street musicians contribute to the atmosphere - from drums to violin.

Like a carnival
Of colours, scents and textures
A buzz for the soul

Ride a Yellow Bug!

Part of an attraction for the little ones at the Australia Day 2013 celebrations beside Dromana pier.

Try riding magic
Though the time may seem so short
The moment lingers

Pavilion Shadows

McCrae Pavilion is a popular dining experience on the Mornington Peninsula.
The alfresco setting - including a reclining chair - is stunning!
All this is by the waters of Port Phillip Bay.

Their sign and the pair of birds cast bold shadows!
Adore how the word Pavilion looks ultra bold with the shadow effect!
But there's an extra shadow!
Between the pair of birds is a tiny shadow of a bird on the wing!
But it barely looks like a bird!

Relax and indulge
Sweet Pavilion pampering
Time to feel special

In this photo, that "extra" shadow is clearly not there!

Australia Day in Dromana

A view of Dromana pier and the queue of people waiting for their children to have a ride in the surf rescue boats - part of the feature of Australia Day in 2012.
The beach, pier and foreshores are the setting for Australia Day in my Dromana world.
It all begins with a free community breakfast from 8:00am till 10:00am.

A wonderful day
When communities gather
And enjoy their world

It's Australia Day today!

Once the light shone...

Skies round McCrae lighthouse on the Mornington Peninsula, Port Phillip Bay.
The original McCrae Lighthouse was a timber structure built in 1854.
After years of service, it was dismantled in sections and transported by bullock wagon to the top of nearby Arthurs Seat to be used as a lookout.
The present day lighthouse, built in England in 1874 by Chance Brothers & Co of Birmingham, was transported to Australia by sea and erected on this site in 1883.
The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1994, following modernisation of other navigational aids in Port Phillip Bay.

There was once a light
Beaming bright across the bay
Now there's just a shell

Another view of the McCrae lighthouse
- surrounded by yacht masts -
appears HERE on my Greyscale Territory blog.

B is for Balnarring...

B is for Balnarring...
(Continuing my series on the Mornington Peninsula)

Balnarring village is in the hinterland of the Mornington Peninsula.
But not far away, on Westernport Bay, is Balnarring beach.

Many large properties feature in the village.

But sadly, more suburbanised new estates are emerging.
I have never seen a street called a square.

Balnarring beach has lovely views of Westernport Bay!

Unusual coastal features emerge at low tide.

Get to the beach early, and you will see race horses being exercised.

Finally, here is a creative sign for Balbirooroo wetlands
Taking care of this wetland area is a feature of the Balnarring Primary School curriculum.
The wetlands have now been protected for 20 years.
Balbirooroo is a tribal language Koori name for Ibis.

Camping Season

Summer means camping season.
Tents flood right along the Dromana to McCrae to Rosebud to Rye to Blairgowrie to Sorrento foreshore of Port Phillip Bay.
It's wall to wall tents, congested roads and bulging shopping centres.
I can't say I enjoy the invasion, but I do dare to wander tent city, at least once, to see how how the community endures suffers breathes may change each year.

Open air canopies fringe tents and and caravans.

Australian flags of all sizes fly everywhere!
(Australia Day is this weekend on 26th January!)
In the photo above, those dangly bits are some Christmas lights still hanging around!
And notice the tent over the tent! There were a few examples of this!

Portable power grids appeared this year!

And then the ultimate - a bird feeder!

Tent city season
Living on weird cramped shoe strings
Rocking by the sea

Would we really win
If we could control the time
As a child may do
